This is the first recording by pedal steel prodigy Susan Alcorn, saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, and noise cellist Leila Bordreuil although they have worked together for many years in various combinations. The result is described an unexpected mix of freely improvised Americana. I’m not so sure that does it justice. There are clear elements of ambient laminal improvisation with each instrument/performer giving space for the others to breathe. Laubrock takes the lead on some tracks when Alcorn adds unique textures and Bordreuil lays down a bed over which her two collaborators can explore. On others Alcorn is the leader when the others create unique sounds and spaces in which she pushes sonic boundaries . A truly unique album.
It is released by Relative Pitch Records(US) and was recorded by Colin Marston at The Thousand Caves, April 1 2018.
