  • HOUR ONE
  • Manuel Valera New Cuban Express Big Band “El Enemigo Brutal” from Jose Marti En Nueva York (Greenleaf)
  • Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Manuel Valera presents the dynamic debut of his New Cuban Express Big Band. Inspired by José Martí, the famed Cuban writer and independence hero, José Martí en Nueva York features Valera’s song cycle of original music based on nine poems from Martí’s seminal 1891 collection, “Versos Sencillos.”
  • Mike Fahie Jazz Orchestra “La fille aux cheveux de lin from Préludes, Book 1 (Claude Debussy)” from Urban(e) (Greenleaf)
  • New York City-based trombonist Mike Fahie (Darcy James Argue, John McNeil, Pedro Giraudo) releases the debut album from his steadfast large ensemble, the Mike Fahie Jazz Orchestra. Urban(e) presents a marriage of both the jazz and classical idioms. Fahie’s stunning arrangements of works by seven composers celebrate the cross-pollination of these two musics, fusing them into one cohesive sound.
  • Vintage Astronaut “Living The Dream” from Now It’s The Future (Mr. Haircut)

  • Kaze & Ikue Mori “Noir Poplar” from Sand Storm (circum-disc)
  • On Sand Storm (September 18, 2020, Circum/Libra), Kaze – the cooperative quartet featuringJapanese composer-pianist Satoko Fujii and trumpeter Natsuki Tamura along with French trumpeter Christian Pruvost and drummer Peter Orins – welcomes pioneering laptop player Ikue Mori as a special guest. It’s no easy task for a band that’s been together for 10 years to add a player without upsetting a well-developed group balance, but the merger proves to be a natural one. Sand Storm’s vibrant collective improvisations and brilliant soloing make this a highpoint in the life of the band.
  • Modasaurus “Crazy Ceilidh” from 4K (Self Released)
  • The jazz-fusion quartet Modasaurus formed in early 2016 when Carleton University professor/pianist/composer/theorist James McGowan joined together with the HML trio: Jamie Holmes, Alex Moxon, Jean-Philippe (JP) Lapensee, all former students of his and now some of the busiest musicians and educators in Ottawa, Canada.
