Sound Prints, co-led by Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas, has a run of shows in the New York area coming up soon, and to celebrate Greenleaf Records have gone through the archives and discovered three unreleased tracks that they have shared with subscribers to the label.
There is a brand new Joe Lovano piece entitled “Newark Flash,” inspired by Wayne Shorter’s childhood nickname. “That-A- Way Piscataway” is a new Dave Douglas composition also inspired by Wayne Shorter and his 1959 composition, “Callaway Went That-A-Way.” The third bonus track, “Mission Creep,” is a further exploration of the Douglas composition that appears on the original album “Scandal” from 2018.
Aside from Dave and Joe the musicians are Lawrence Fields on piano, Linda May Han Oh on bass and the legendary Joey Baron on drums.
All three tracks will be featured on World of Jazz 371 (9th February 2020).
